I went on the School Sucks Project podcast the other day for a two hour long discussion about dropping out of college.
This was my favorite podcast interview yet. Brett is an incredible host and we got to discuss not only the practical side of doing it but the philosophy behind that decision. There’s a ton of new stuff in it I haven’t talked gotten the chance to talk about in public before.
From Brett’s description:
My questions include
– How did he have such clear personal and professional goals at such a young age?
– Background: Where did his political and philosophical grounding come from, including an intense interest in alternative education?
– When did he realize he’d made the right choice to drop out?
– What made him so confident that he could teacher himself better than the University of Michigan professors could?
We move on to general advice for young people who are struggling with this decision about dropping out of college, including tips on talking to parents, mindset, and the importance of proving yourself to yourself first.
You can listen to the episode on the School Sucks Project website or iTunes. I’ll post part two, which is about building your own credential and Praxis, when it is available. I also encourage you to support Brett’s show. He’s doing important work.
