The internet of false accomplishments
The world has always had hucksters, charlatans, liars, and people who otherwise claimed for themselves unearned accolades and achievements. The internet has given them the ability to be much louder though and it can be easy to get taken in.
There are career “coaches” who got fired from their last two jobs. I know one. There are “co-founders” who were really just unpaid administrative interns. There are guys who claimed they worked at 8 different startups, some of which never existed.
A generally good heuristic is this: if they talk a lot about everything BUT concrete, deliverable creative and/or professional work, they might not be worth paying attention to.
